MIT research suggests one ton of mined lithium emits 15 tons of CO2. Fossil fuels need to be burnt to manufacture lithium batteries contributing CO2 to the environment. Is this worth the cost to our environment?
Sounds like mining technology, processing and manufacturing need to adapt to alternate fuel sources too. Unfortunately, or refinement and chemical processing often release unwanted products. Perhaps there could be a way to reduce the air-release, by capturing and condensing carbon-based byproducts...?
